The Clippie to race in Broadlands series
Special correspondent i Dunedin! The Clippie, a dashing winner at Oamaru yesterday, will be the Dennis Brothers’ colour bearer in the remaining races of the Broadlands Series. Their smart three-year-old filly. The Twinkle, has had a leg injury pinpointed to a pulled flexor tendon between the hoof and the fetlock and she will not race again this season.
The Twinkle was in second place in the Broadlands
Series behind Tui’s Lass, which she beat in the Otago Mannequin Stakes last month and the Ascot Park Stakes in November. The Clippie will by-pass the next race in the series, the Newmans Stakes at Nelson, but she has the Inglewood Stakes on her programme at Rangiora next month. The Clippie improved from fifth to tackle the pacemaker, Sealay, entering the home straight and drew clear over the closing stages. Tieman which attracted one inquiry when advertised for sale on Saturday, came from far back to win the
Second Oamaru Maiden yesterday. Tiernan, a five-year-old by Orbiter from the English mare, Three Bee, was advertised for sale at S6OO, a vast difference to the SIO,OOO he cost his Sydney owner, Mr Kevin Ryan. No business was done as the result of the inquiry and Tieman remains in the Ashburton stable of Jim Lalor. Three Bee, a daughter of Bleep Bleep, was imported by Mr Dave Allin, of the Morwenstow Stud. Kaiapoi, and has been represented by another winner this season in Tudor.
