Collett booked for smart youngster
The successful Gore apprentice, Jim Collett, has been engaged to ride the Riccarton-trained sisters lonian Sea and Aegean Sea at the Hororata meeting on Friday.
The two-year-old Aegean Sea was a promising third in her race debut at the Riccarton Turf Club’s meeting on March 3.
Yesterday she showed that she had benefited from that race when she sprinted attractively in training on the trial grass at Riccarton. Mr Jack Thwaites’s Beaufort Sea filly was shading Grand Slam finishing 600 m in 36.5.
Later lonian Sea and Stoney Topaz sprinted 800 on terms in 492, the last 600 in 37.8. Halo showed ability to close a wide lead held by New Wing between the 800 m and the post. New Wing was out by six lengths for a start, and ran her 800 in 49.8. Halo and New Wing will meet in the Nellavale Maiden at the Hororata meeting.
