Rail services

Sir, — I refer to an item in your Reporter’s diary of February 13 about stopping trains at Kirwee for passengers. I have pleasure in advising you that arrangements have since been made for both the 9.40 a.m. and the 6.40 p.m. ChristchurchGreymouth passenger trains to stop if required at Kirwee for passengers. Train services between Christchurch and Greymouth were recently altered to provide a suitable timetable for the convenience of West Coast patrons. To give these services every chance of an increase in patronage due consideration will be given to a request to set down passengers at an unscheduled stopping station. However, notice should be given in ample time to allow documentation to be completed and the necessary advices issued before the train is due to depart from the originating station. — Yours, etc., D. M. PATCHETT. District Traffic Manager. February 22, 1979.
