Typhoid at hospital
PA Wellington Typhoid tests have been made on certain patients and staff at Porirua Hospital after the discovery of a case of the disease at the hospital.
The disease was contracted by a male patient who is now being treated in isolation at Wellington Hospital. The Wellington Deputy Medical Officer of Health (Dr E. J. Garden) said last evening that it would take a few days to get the results of the tests.
Typhoid is contracted by, eating contaminated material.
“The source of this case has not been identified yet, but I would remind people that shellfish from Wellington Harbour should not be consumed,” Dr Garden said.
