Prominent lawyer dead
PA Auckland Mr Joseph Boyce Johnston. the longest-serving solicitor in Auckland, has died. He was 97.
Mr Johnston practised for 65 years, and was an active! member of an Auckland law| firm until he was 90. He served on the Auck-j land District Law Society's! council for 31 years, and] was vice-president of thei New Zealand Law Society! for some years. He was also' deputy chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. Mr Johnston was a keen yachtsman who served a term as commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. He sa : led around New Zealand with four others in a 12.5 m launch in 1926 — believed to be the first such vovage since Caplain Cook's time. Mr Johnston was born in Auckland, and attended Prince Albert College and Auckland University. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
