West Coast bowls
Eleven of the 162 rinks competing in the sixty-fifth West Coast annual fours bowling tournament have gone through the first six rounds unbeaten and have already qualified for postsection play. Twenty-two more fours have had five wins, requiring only one win from the three remaining section rounds today to qualify.
A feature of the tournament has been the number of high scores registered, an eight scored on one head, and the rink which became engrossed with the television Davis Cup doubles at lunchtime yesterday and returned to the green 20 minutes late
and was forced to default the game. After registering the default, it carried on with the scheduled game and ironically won it. The qualifiers to date are:—
J. H. Love (Greymouth R.S.A.), A. Roberts (Cashmere), W. Russell (West port), R. Dorman (Fendalton), A. Nottingham (Spreydon), D. Wadsworth (Stoke), W. Humphreys (Blenheim R.S.A.), J. McGregor (Caversham, the winner of the South Island tournament at Greymouth last year), R. Smith (Kia Toa), J. Brennan (Blaketown), D. Stuart (Linwood).
