Canadian salmon
Sir, — A report (“The Press,” January 25) informed us that the Canadian Government is seeking compensation from the Soviet Union for the costs of searching for a nuclear-pow-ered Soviet satellite which crashed in Canada’s Northwest territory and was never found. Much of New Zealand’s tinned salmon is of Canadian origin and it should be a matter of some concern whether or not tinned salmon consumed in New Zealand has been spawned or caught in an environment where it has been exposed to radioactivity. Those concerned with marketing tinned salmon in New Zealand should be made to give an absolute guarantee that their product has not been contaminated by radioactive waste. — Yours, etc., D. W. O. JONES. February 10, 1979.
