Bail on drug charge opposed
The police strongly opposed the granting of bail to Darcy Yee, aged 37, described as a commission agent, at the hearing of an application for bail in chambers yesterday before Mr Justice Casey. The police called evidence in support of their opposition. His Honour granted Yee bail on the conditions that! he put up a bond of $5OOO i and two sureties of $2500 1 each, that he report daily to I the Christchurch Central | Police Station and that he surrender his passport to the police.
Yee has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court that on January 30 he had in his possession cannabis resin for supply. Under section 30 of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act, 1978, no person who is charged with or convicted of a drug dealing offence shall be granted bail except by an order of a Judge of the Supreme Court.
Mr K. N. Hampton appeared for Yee and Mr B. Stanaway for the Crown. The hearing of the application for bail took half an hour.
