Apprentice fined
PA Timaru The Riccarton apprentice, P. G. Mein, was fined $3O for careless riding at the Waimate Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. Mein, the rider of Highfield, which finished second in the Makikihi Maiden, was found to have allowed his mount to shift ground outwards in the straight. As a result, Sydney James (third) was forced over extra ground. After an inquiry, the second and third placings were reversed, Sydney James being promoted to second.
