N.Z. Angus in Scotland

Pride of place in this photograph goes to Te Ohu Kingdom, one of three New Zealand Angus bulls sent to Scotland and offered at the Perth sales in 1976. Kingdom became the property of Mr William C. McGregor, of Newcairnie, Fife, and with his first crop of calves created a very good impression. In a letter to Mr Bruce Clayton, of Dannevirke, who bred Kingdom, Mr McGregor described the 200day weights of the bull’s first crop as “good, very

good.” Kingdom sired the three heaviest calves in Mr McGregor’s herd, the best having a 200-day weight of 269 kg. They compared very favourably with Canadian-sired calves, and were superior to those sired by an Australian bull. One of Kingdom’s progeny has been accepted for the Meat and Livestock Commission’s test at Aberdeen — a test which in recent years has been dominated by Canadiansired stock.

For the New Zealand Angus Association, this recent photograph is of particular interest. It shows, from left, Mr McGregor and Messrs J. Macphail and R. H. Bignail, of Matthew Gloag and Company, distillers, of Perth. Messrs Macphail and Gloag visited Christchurch earlier this year and after inspecting the Town Hall agreed to sponsor its hire for the World Angus Forum in 1981.
