Little hope for cardinal

PA Auckland Little hope is held for the recovery of Cardinal Delargey, the Metropolitan of New Zealand Archbishop of Wellington. The auxiliary Bishop of Wellington (The Most Rev. O. N. Snedden) said that the results of “extensive” tests at Mater Hospital, Auckland, became known yesterday.

“We have learned the illness is as grave as it can be,” he said. “The prognosis is there is very little hope.”

Bishop Snedden has asked ail Roman Catholics to pray for Cardinal Delargey. Special prayers will be offered for him this Sunday and Christmas Day.

Cardinal Delargey entered hospital while in Rome in November for “rest and observation.” His condition was described then as “not serious?”

He was given medical clearance to return to New Zealand but when he arrived he entered Mater Hospital.
