Anti-racial statutes

NZPA-Reuter Salisbury Rhodesia’s bi-racial transitional Government has put before Parliament a series of bills designed to eliminate racial discrimination from its statutes by the end of next month. The legislation, which needs the approval of twothirds of the 66-seat House of Assembly, will end segregation of land, residential areas, schools, and hospitals. Black and white Government Ministers briefed Parliament on the six related bills and debate was adjourned until January 9. after the Christmas recess. The measures, the Government’s proof that it is moving towards the end of white supremacy after 88 years, include the repeal of the controversial Land Tenure Act, which divides Rhodesia into white and black areas.
