Special correspondent Invercargill At Invercargill yesterday, Hovdon, a form runner for the Kelvin Smith High-weight, and Beau Frere, which races in the Vincent Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday recorded pleasing semifinal trials for their engagements. It was a good gallop 15m out on the course proper which was firm. Fog set in later in the morning preventing some gallops from being timed.

Crown Patron recorded a favourable trial for the Wilson Han dicap when she finished two lengths clear of a stablemate. Great Imagination, at the end of 800 m in 51.7 sec, the last 600 m in 38.4 sec.

Ray Pankhurst’s pair, Tudor Peak and Bourbon Chief, worked well over 800 m in 51sec.

Harold Wilson and Darana were given a strong round and were timed to run their last 600 m in 41.3 sec, the last 400 m in 28.4 sec.

First Ace and Ma Creek were paired over BOom in 52.1 sec, the last 600 taking 39.45ec.
