Searching gallop for Boom Vang

PA Auckland The highly promising stayer, Boom Vang, was put through a searching training gallop at Takanini on Tuesday in company with Herodes over 1600 m and from all appearances Boom Vang pulled up as well as he has ever been.

Boom Vang caused his connections concern when he pulled up distressed after finishing a long last in the Avondale Cup. He looks as though he has made a full recovery and, along with Herodes, went a sound 1600 m.

Working against the rails on the No. 1 grass, Herodes and Boom Vang went 1600 m in Imin 42.8 sec, coming home very strongly over the final 600 m in 38.2 sec. They finished together with Herodes working slightly the better at the finish. Boom Vang is a candidate for Tuesday’s Queen Elizabeth Handicap and the second payment has also been made for him for the Auckland Cup. Other excellent gallops this morning were recorded by Cotton Candy, Aghios Nikalaos, Delma Jay and Antique. The No. 1 grass offered good footing. Cotton Candy, to run in the Newmarket Handicap was in brilliant form when she came away from stablemate Washington over the final stages of 1000 m in Imin o.4sec.

Aghios Nikalaos, a candidate for the Rosetown Stakes at Te Awamutu on Saturday, went freely throughout 1200 m in Imin 14.6 sec, the last 600 m in 37sec. He has been a trifle disappointing lately, but he looks well and his. trackwork has been first rate.

The very smart juvenile, Vio Condos, finished better than stablemate Per Cent ! over the final stages of ■looom in Imin I.Bsec. Vio Condios is a handsome colt by Adios 11 and a f op prospect for next week’s Breeders’ Stakes. Delma Jay, which has ample speed, went 1200 m in Imin 16sec, with stablemate Eyejay, the last 1000 m in Imin o.2sec. Delma Jay will be one of the hardest to beat in the Goodwood Stakes on Tuesday. Crest Star and Guest Star were together throughout 1600 m in Imin 47.25ec. the last 1200 m in Imin 14sec. They are candidates for next week’s Christmas Handicap, with Bob Skelton being named as the rider for Crest Star.

Uncle Remus, which will have the distinction of leading the N.Z. Derby field out next Tuesday, went comfortably through 1000 m in Imin 4see. He was not at top speed. The Derby candidate, John Walker, and stablemate. Miss Halo, went a smart

1200 m in Imin 16sec, the last 1000 m in Imin O.lsec. Miss Halo is a very promising filly and a candidate for both Te Awamutu and Ellerslie. The Rosetown Stakes runners, Glister and Make Mine Candy, went 1200 m in Imin 17.4 sec, with Glister going better at the finish. The highly promising three-year-old, Wandering Knight, which will run in the Robinson Handicap next Tuesday, got through an easy 1200 m in Imin 18.4 sec, the last 1000 m in Imin 3.4 sec. Wandering Knight could not have been more impressive in making a winning debut at Avondale last week and he looks one to follow over the Christmas carnival.
