Harley ahead
The highly talented North Linwood tennis player, Stephen Harley, will head north for the big circuit matches during the holiday, secure in the knowledge that he holds pride of place in Canterbury at present.
When competition and ranking tennis went into Christmas recess last weekend. Harley had established a one-point lead in the Bank of New Zealand Grand Prix competition.
Harley has 18 points, Paul Boatwood (Avonside) has 17, and Warren Edgecumbe (Elmwood) and Ralph Webster (United) are third equal with 15 points each. Then come David Lawn (Woolston), 13, and Alan Croad (Avondale), 12. Two points are awarded for singles wins in senior inter-club and ranking matches, and one point for singles losses and doubles wins.
The competition will run until the end of the senior championship in March.
