Lochore invited to S.A.
PA Masterton The Wairarapa farmer and former All Black captain, Brian Lochore, is interested in helping manage an international composite rugby team that may play in South Africa next year.
If the plan, promoted by the Northern Transvaal Rugby Union, gets off the ground, six of the players could be New Zealanders. Mr Lochore confirmed yesterday morning that he had been “unofficially” asked to help manage the team.
The invitation came through an unnamed New Zealander acting on behalf of the Northern Transvaal union.
“I'm interested. If we’ll be playing multi-racially selected teams in South Africa then nothing but good can come from that ... I’d have to think deeply and hard about going over,” he said.
However, the “international” team was only a plan and it was still not definite that a squad of New Zealanders would be included, Mr Lochore said.
