Mr Ay Bee in brilliant trial
Special correspondent Dunedin Mr Ay Bee continued his preparation for the Dunedin Cup with an outstanding trial at Wingatui yesterday morning. Mr Ay Bee, working on the plough in contrast to other trialists, covered 1200 m in a brilliant Imin 11.45, without being asked; for serious effort. He rani the opening 600 m in 35.2 s in! dead conditions. “I don’t know how fast he would have gone if I had let hinn
go,” said his rider Lyn Prendergast. Country Minstrel, Black Melody and Mellseur were seen to advantage in trials on the course proper which was in use for the first time' since September. The temperamental Country Minstrel was working keenly with Larkin, which) hung, at the end of 800 m; run in 49.55. the last 600 m in 37.55. Larkin, now trained} by Tony Prendergast, proved; 'a capable sprinter in class 4; ;and 5 ranks in the Auckland: !area last season.
