Glenayr likely to extend record

Special correspondent Wanganui

I The consistent mare Glenlayr could extend her record when she tackles the Ruato Handicap, first leg of the Wanganui double at Wanganui today. The Wanganui meeting is a restricted programme fixture and the Ruato Handicap is a race for class 4 and 5 horses.

Glenayr, from the GestroMcEwan stable is a mare by Indian Order. At four, she shows some promise that she could go a little further than just class 4 racing. With 55.5 kilos, she is the book top-weight, but has the form to back that.

She won by over a length on the course at the Guineas

meeting at. the start of the month and on Saturday was hardly disgraced when chasing Raymondo home at Awapuni. In an even line-up the visiting filly Cally’s Girl, along with Belle Monde, Brack and Linnet may be the hardest to beat.

Cally’s Girl, a filly by Abridge Member showed her ability on the course with a good second behind Rain or Shine in December. She has not raced since, but from a good draw may trouble, she is from the in-form stable of Graeme Rogerson. Belle Monde has not raced since September, but she looks to have above average ability, she was third at Waipukurau, but before that

had won twice at Wanganuij over today's distance.

Brack’s form is also sound. He won nicely at the Otaki meeting and was not far away when sixth at Awapuni on Saturday. He looks a good chance. Linnet is a filly from the Brian Smith stable. Her form had been disappointing, but she was a last-start second to Glenayr on the course earlier in the month. Her biggest problem may be a wide barrier draw. Two three-year-olds could fight out the finish of the second leg, the Ballycastle Handicap, a class 5 sprint. They are Anzaas and Lens. Anzaas is in good form. He was only beaten half a neck by a very promising

| type in Kirraking at Awaipuni on Saturday and the

time before was third behind the speedy Whitbread at Woodville. The time before that he had won the Normanby Handicap at Hawera. Lens has been running sound races. He was beaten into second at Wanganui by Raywood Lass at the beginning of the month and before that had run fourth at Woodville and third, at the Hawera meeting. Like

anzaas he has drawn well too. Magnum, a well-bred mare from the Bill Ford stable will be entitled to some support also, though she has not drawn well, she was a miden winner at Paeroa two starts before.
