Mini-car recall

PA Wellington New Zealand Motor Corporation dealers are to recall all Minis assembled since March, to make a safety check of their braking systems.

A corporation spokesman said that advice had come from the United Kingdom of a fault that could cause a gradual increase in brake pedal travel. The increased pedal travel should be noticed by the driver before any loss of braking efficiency and would

normally show up early in the car’s life, he said. “There is no need for an immediate recall because all affected Minis have a dual braking system, which ensures that the vehicle is fully protected from braking failure,” the spokesman said. The problem had not been reported in New Zealand and only a limited number of Minis assembled since March were likely to be affected, he said. Owners would be approached by their dealers, he said.
