Wheat price raised

The basic price for wheat from the 1980 harvest will be $137 a tonne, an increase of $9.50 a tonne. Government approval for the 7.45 per cent increase was announced vesterdav by the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr AdamsSchneider).

The Government has also decided to maintain the 20 per cent premium on Hilgendorf wheat and the discount of 5 per cent on Arawa; but the discount on Karam u has been increased from 10 per cent to 15 per cent.

The approved basic price is below the $141) a tonne agreed to by growers and the Wheat Board, but is likely to be "reasonably acceptable" to many wheatgrowers, according to the chairman of the Dominion agriculture section of Federated Farmers (Mr A. L Mulholland).
