Bracing discussion at board meeting

A reason to support the purchase of braces from two clothing firms was sought at the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s meeting yesterday. The board’s finance committee dealt with two accounts of $lO6 and $49, for braces. Captain A. R. Champion queried the accounts, and asked whether the board was in fact supplying braces, and for what reason. “To hold up the trousers we supply,” said the general manager (Mr J. A. McPhail). “What about garters?” a board member said. The committee chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane) said that the matter should be examined. “I thought braces were hard to get, because 1 have tried for some time to get a pair for my suit trousers.
