Chch lawyer to be Q.C.
A Christchurch barrister, Mr P. G. S. Penlington, had been appointed a Queen’s Counsel, the AttorneyGeneral (Mr Wilkinson) said yesterday. Mr Penlington. aged 46, was the president of the Canterbury District Law Society in' 1974, a member of the council of the New Zealand Law Society from 1972 to 1975, a member of the Criminal Law Reform Committee since its foundain 1971, and a member of the Rules Committee since 1975. He was born in Christchurch, and educated at Christ’s College. He started work as a clerk with the Christchurch firm of R. A. Young, Hunter, and Company, in 1951, and joined the firm of Wynn, Williams and Company as a law clerk in 1952, staying until 1957. Mr Penlington graduated Ll.B. from Canterbury University College in 1956, returned to R. A. Young, Hunter, and Company in 1957, and was admitted to the partnership in 1959. He
started his own practice in 1977. Mr Penlington has been on the Crown prosecution panel in Christchurch since 1968, and has been a judge advocate since 1969. He. will be called to the Inner Bar of the Supreme Court at Christchurch on December 18.
