Drugs stolen from chemist

The Halswell Pharmacy is the latest target of drug burglars in Christchurch. The shop, in Ensign Road, Oaklands, was broken into at the weekend.

Thieves forced the locked door of a drug cabinet and escaped with $3O worth of drugs. Two of the drugs were narcotics, and most were dangerous, a C.LB. spokesman said.

Christchurch detectives are still investigating several drug burglaries in the city, most of them from doctors’ surgeries. Property worth more than $l5OO was stolen from a house at 21 Helmores Lane, Fendalton, at the week-end. The haul included a stereo set, cassette tapes, watches, records, and a transistor radio.

A colour television set, valued at $l2OO, was stolen from the Stonehurst Private Hotel in Gloucester Street, and a stereo set and records, and cash amounting to $B2O, were taken from a house in Barbadoes Street.

Thirty-three bottles of liquor were stolen in a burglary of the Blenheim Road Motor Inn.

The burglars also forced open two tills and took $6O in cash.
