Farewell for six principals

Six of the seven Christchurch primary-school principals who will retire at the end of the school yeah or who retired earlier this year, were given official farewells yesterday at a function organised by the North Canterbury Primary School Principals’ Association.

The principals are Messrs P. S. W. Mummery, who has been principal of Avondale School for 12 years; G. R. Mathieson, Lii. ood Avenue, 19 years; G. S. Maister, Isleworth, nine years; B. F. Simmons, Waimairi, seven years and a half; G. S. Maslin, Cotswold, six years; and M. L. King, Christchurch East, two years. Mr I. McKay, who has been principal at Aranui School for eight years, was unable to attend the function. 1

The principals who ' have spent from 40 to 43 years each in the teaching service in all areas, of New Zealand, were thanked by the association for their services to educSation. About 200 principals, retired principals, and representatives of the Education Department and the Canterbury Education Board were present.
