Aggravated robbery brings jail

PA Auckland Two men who robbed a man; of his wallet and $275 out-1 side an Auckland hotel were jailed yesterday for two! years. They appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court' at Auckland after a jury; found them guilty of aggra-l vated robbery. John Byron Alexander! Walker, aged 21, a driver,; and Dennis Albert James;. Grennill, aged 22, an unem-; ployed postal clerk, of Po-I rirua, had denied robbing the; man outside a tavern on; May 31. Mr Justice Mahon said the I Crown had alleged that a: young woman lured the; complainant down an alley; to a car for the purpose of; sexual intercourse. Three; young men, including the!, two accused had conspired to rob the complainant. He said that the girl had; been acquitted of complicity; by the jury, and so he had; to approach the case as if the girl was walking down an; alley to a car which did not; exist, and the complainant; was assaulted by three men, who just happened to be! present. His Honour said that he I accepted no weapon was; used, but the complainant; was punched and kicked. ! Grennill had emerged with I the complainant’s wallet, but! had run into the arms of a policeman.
