Rare horses arrive

PA Auckland Four of New Zealand's most recent arrivals have good reason for thinking the grass is greener on this side of the fence. In their own stamping ground — Iran — they were thought to be extinct until 1965. They are four miniature Caspian mares that arrived in Auckland this week. They are in good condition after their trip, and will soon be on a North Auckland farm, as the basis of a stud. The Caspian is thought to be the oldest breed of horse in the world. It also has a blood group which differs from that of other horses.
