Coman left out
Peter Coman, the hardhitting East ChristchurchShirley opening batsman, has been omitted from the Canterbury cricket team to play in the Gillette Cup final at Lancaster Park on December 23. His place in the squad has been taken by Geoff Smith, who returned to near best form for St Albans against Sydenham on Saturday and celebrated his selection with a century at the expense of the same opponent yesterday. Smith was the twelfth
man in Canterbury’s opening cup fixture against Wellington at Lower Hutt when Coman was not available. Coman was back in the team for the semi-final win over Otago but was dismissed for seven runs.
No other changes have been made. The 12 players named were Maurice Ryan capt.), Barry Hadlee, Murray Parker, Geoff Smith, David Stead, Rod Fulton, Paul McEwan, Vaughan Brown, Richard Hadlee, Les Watson, Steve Bateman, and Gerald Cummins.
