Bowls record
Record entries for a South Island venue have been received for the Air New Zealand women’s Dominion I bowls tournament which begins in Christchurch on February 5.
A total of 352 players will take part in the singles championship, 428 nominations have been forwarded for the pairs, and there will be 276 teams in the fours section. To accommodate the big numbers 22 greens have been booked for the singles, 31 for the pairs and 20 for the fours, and the tournament headquarters will be at the Linwoo'd club. Among the best known entrants are Mrs Elsie Wilkie, the reigning world singles champion, and three other members of the New Zealand team chosen for the 1977 world titles in England, Mesdames Cis Winstanley, Hazel Harper and Pearl Dymond.
