Mussels clear of pesticide

Wellington reporter Tests for pesticide residues in mussels farmed in the Marlborough Sounds have drawn a complete blank. No traces of D.D.T., lindane, or other pesticides were found in a recent series of tests made by the Ministry) of Agriculture, and the mussels were given a clean bill: of health. The tests used can detect’ traces as small as 0.01 parts : per million. Mussels are prone to accumulating water-borne pollutants, because they filter; such big volumes of water when feeding. The tests were made on samples from six sites in; the Kenepuru and Pelorus Sounds at three-month inter-, vals this year.
