Catchment spending on target

Spending by the North Canterbury Catchment Board after the first six months of the financial vear is almost exactly as budgeted. The chairman of the board's executive and financial committee (.Mr T. Double), said that spending was running “true to form.” Almost exactly 50 per cent of the admnistration account had been spent, and 51 per cent of estimated works spending had been done. The only departure from normal was reserves expenditure, where 68 per cent of the predicted amount had been spent. However, this was because the work in this category was mostly seasonal, involving such things as planting. Although the estimates had been accurate, there would be no surplus, Mr Double told committee members. “If something else should come up on which we need to spend, we will be able to do so only at the expense of something already scheduled.”
