Boycott ‘still thriving'
A recent lull in rising grocery prices has not meant that the Housewives’ Boycott Movement has relaxed, according to Mrs K. Himiona, an organiser of the movement. Mrs Himiona said that a watchful eye was still being kept on prices, although the dramatic increases of the previous few years had slowed somewhat. This was because of election year, she said. Manufacturers were being kept on a tighter rein regarding rising prices. “But the truth will tell in the next 12 months,” she said. Now that the National Government had a smaller majority it would be more likely to restrict price increases, said Mrs Himiona. She said that the latest round of increases on Wattie’s products had come only four months after the last, instead of the usual six months. nHMRHMBBISII
