Cycleway plan for motorway
Proposals to build a cycleway along part of the; (Southern Motorway have; I been supported by the Paparua County Council’s town planning committee. I The cycleway would give I cyclists continued access between Hoon Hay and Sock- ! burn when the motorway Igoes through. The committee also wants a similar pathj ■ built for pedestrians. According to the county council’s town planner (Mr; K. G. Lawn), no provisions have been made in the motorway plan for cyclists j and pedestrians who use; Annex Road to travel from Hoon Hay to Sockburn. The proposal has been supported by the Waimairi County Council, the Christchurch City Council, and the Canterbury Regional Planning Authority. Together with the Paparua County • Council they . plan to approach the Ministry of Works and Development asking for 1 the proposal to be included I in the motorway. The chairman of the town planning committee (Mr E. C. ■ Britnell) said he had never 1 heard of a New Zealand' motorway which had cycle and pedestrian paths. “However, although it is al, bit of a forlorn hone, it is ’ worth supporting.” he said. : F
