New meat talks
A return to conciliation talks on a new award for meat workers may result from a meeting called for Thursday, in Christchurch. The meeting between workers and employers’ representatives has been called by the Industrial Conciliator who has been chairing the talks for a new award, Mr L. Fortune. The talks were adjourned sine die on November 15 when the parties failed to agree on the size of a wage increase. The employers had offered 15 per cent, inclusive
of about 5.5 per cent to cover a wage order and cost-of-living adjustments The union was seeking 17.5 per cent, inclusive of the order and adjustments.
