The excuses
Many reasons are put forward by people who refuse or are reluctant to wear seat belts. These were a sample, accompanied by the replies. 1. “It's too much trouble for a short journey.” (Most accidents happen on short journeys.) 2. “I won’t be travelling fast.” (You can be hit from behind even if you are stationary.) 3. "Seat belts trap you in cars.” (Most people become trapped because they are unconscious. Seat belts increase the chances of your remaining conscious.) 4. “It's better to be thrown clear of a car than remain inside.” (The body of a car affords a lot mare protection than a lamp post ,road surface, etc.) 5. “Seat belts are uncomfortable.” (So is a hospital bed. Inertia reel belts are the answer. These adjust with the body but snap taut in an accident. They wind back automatically when not in use.) 6. "No-one is going to tell me what to do.” (Some regulations may infringe personal liberties, but this one saves lives.) 7. “My kids get cranky in a seat belt.” (Probably because they are tired or,hungry. They need to be trained to accept the belt. Parents should break long trips so children do not get uncomfortable. They should also take time out to amuse children.)
