An Australian scientist, whose research led to the development of machinewashable knitwear, has been appointed deputy managing-director of the International Wool Secretarial. He is Dr John McPhee, aged 48 years, who for the past two years has been director of planning and services for the I.W.S. In 1966 he joined the I.W.S. as head of the Yorkshire technical centre and was appointed director of research and development in 1972.
