New plants are taking, hold in the rejuvenated fernery at Mona Vale, where the central crownshaped fonntain and pool have been restored. Only a few tree ferns and some flax had survived in the fernery, which was overgrown and closed until recently. The original structure was built in North Hagley Park for the 1906 Christchurch Exhibition, then moved to Mona Vale. City Council staff have covered the fernery with new trellises.
