‘Not likely’
Sickness beneficiaries ! who are convicted of : crimes are “very unlikely” to have their fines paid by the Department of Social Welfare, according to the I Minister of Social Welfare I (Mr Walker). The case of Gavin Edgar William Kinsman, who appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday, was referred to Mr Walker — who remains Minister of
Social Welfare until Decomber 15 — for his comments on the statement by Kinsman’s counsel that Kinsman would get a supplementary benefit to pay his fines. Mr Walker said that for the short time he remain- ! ed Minister he would see i to it that Kinsman “will < not likely get a cent out t of the department.” “I’ll personally see to i that,” Mr Walker said. } —
