Wat Next, which is being taken south for the highweight at Beaumont, matched Rosie’s Boy for 800 m in 51s on the plough yesterday. The stablemates recorded 38s for the final 600 m. The Riccarton jockey, Maurice Thornley, will make the trip to ride Wat Next in the high-weight at Beaumont. Released led Irish Jan by two lengths finishing 1200 m in Imin 17.65, the opening 600 m in 37.25. Yakcam was clear of 1 Lurkio. finishing 1400 m in lmin32.4s, the last 600 m in 40s.
Top Grade showed he had made pleasing progress recently when he sprinted 600 m in 37.65. He will have his next start at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting next week. | Nuriootpa. another likely to race at the CJ.C. meeting before holiday engagements at Wingatui and Washdyke, could have easily bettered 51.4 s for 800 m and 38.6 s for the last 60Om
