Gold Arc shows speed
Special correspondent Palmerston Nortli
The stablemates, Gold Arc and Arctic Note were in outstanding form in final gallops at Awapuni yesterday morning. Gold Arc will race at Pukekohe, Arctic Note on his favourite track at Wa= nganui. Caucus was another to please. He will race against Teddy Doon and Bold Venture in the Wanganui Championship Stakes. Bernard Browne who trains Gold Arc, rode her the reverse way on the plough and she ran 1200 m brilliantly in Imin 14.4. the last 600 in 36.4. She was not troubled by the right-handed way of galloping.
Arctic Note was little inferior. He hit out well running 1000 m in Imin 3.65, the last 600 in 38.65. Bill Skelton will ride him in the Hospitality Handicap at Wanganui. Arctic Note has won
three times over the distance on the course so after a bold second at Hawera he looks certain to go well. Caucus showed that he will not be out of it in the Championship Stakes by shading Imascamp at the end of 1600 m in Imin 465, the last 600 in 40s. Caucus found 1600 m too short at Woodville. He won over a middle distance in his previous start and considering he was at a weight dis> advantage in this gallop it was a good effort. Imascamp was fourth in the Woodville Cup, a run which suggests a first leg chance at Wanganui.
The Wanganui Cup candidate, Garfield, was surprisingly beaten a length by the maiden Purple and "Gold over 1400 m in Imin 325, the last 600 in 39. Purple and Gold went really well but faces a tough uphill battle in the Championship Stakes.
