The Legal Division comprises 12 Solicitors and two Appeals Officers and is centred at Head Office in Wellington. Regional Solicitors are located at Auckland and Christchurch. The appointee will bear the responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the Legal Division. In addition they will be required to prepare options and act as an advisor to the Commissioner and other Departmental officers in respect of a variety of legal matters affecting the Department, but principally in the areas of Income Tax, estate, gift and stamp duties law. Equity, company, commercial and partnership law are also significant areas. The appointee will be involved in consultations at a high level with taxpayers and their legal and accounting representatives. They will also be concerned with the formulation and draughting of a large amount- of new and amending legislation passed annually. Depending on experience, court appearances in all Courts and before the Taxation Review Authority may be available. Commencing salary is $18,377 to $19,642 salary will progress to $22,431 on merit.
