Addington Market Buyers pay well for store cattle

I After a brief lull last [Tuesday, store cattle values returned to the strong rates of a fortnight ago at the Addington Market yesterday.

In common with the last special sale two weeks ago, the yarding was relatively small. It numbered 865 head, of which 200 were adults.

it was quite a useful yarding, and as the yearlings coming forward show more size and condition so the price levels have lifted.

[ There were several sales iof yearling steers this ! week approaching or exceeding $l5O, and very few [below $lOO. Some Angus and 'Angus-Hereford cross topped ;the section at $153; good : yearlings ranged from $l2O [to $135, medium $lO5 to 'slls, and smaller at $94 to $lO2.

[ A minor feature of the ■ sale was the price of $152 [for a pen of very wellJ grown forward Hereford heiIfers. Angus heifers, aiso of : breeding quality, reached [slso. Otherwise, good average yearling heifers sold at $lOO to $ll5, medium $B5 to $95, and small at $65 to $BO. Adult cattle met a very brisk demand. Last week’s decline of up to $l5 was quickly recovered, putting [the market well in line with [rates paid two weeks ago. A number of pens of steers reached or bettered $2OO. A consignment of two-year-old Angus from the Waiau area provided a good example of the strength of the market. They averaged

almost $2OO, with the top pen fetching $2ll.

, Medium steers readily; reached $lBO. and only the small fell below $l4O. Some adult Friesian steei s ranged front $lB9 to $214, and two-year-old Friesians ■at $l3B to $l4B. Heifers sold to $195 for a pen of even Hereford;, in prime condition. Other Hereford heifers, with not a great deal of size, readily j fetched $l2O or more.
