Trusty Scot in dashing win at Addington trials

gracing and trotting

Bv

G. K. YULE

Trusty Scot showed a high peak of fitness for his big test in the Pan Am Mile on Saturday with a dashing win at the Addington trials yesterday.

Trusty Scot made a splendid beginning and set all of a rousing pace over 2600 m in Stnin 23.55, with the last 1600 m 2min 2s, the final 800 m in 58s, and the last 400 m in 29.25. It was a magnificent run as he appeared to have something left at the line Equally as impressive was; Belmer’s Image, which fin- 1 ished two lengths and a half from the winner after drift-; Ing at the start. He began to i improve from the 1000 m and! received a cover soon after j when Wee Win was pulled { out. Belmer’s Image was in-, dined to hang in near the line, but this was not sur- ’ prising as he must have; paced his last 1600 m in' dose to even time. Belmer’s Image looks very! fit and it will be no surprise if he plays a prominent part In the finish of the big mile, j Wee Win appreciated the solid pace and was not knocked about to finish third, half a length behind! Belmer’s Image. Wee Win is best known as a staying! type, but he has gone well; in sprint races in the past. I He looks ready for a top ef-l fort on Saturday. Lordable, which has fresh- { ened up well, went a fair I' race for fourth, ahead of’ Gentle George, which missed the start, and Miss Pert. El Guago (El Patron-Fluer-etta continued his good from 1 at trials with a narrow win over Wickliffe in the first heat for two-vear-olds.

Wickliffe, a gelding by f Tactile from Mitzi, showed promise, by making ground . for second, a head from theI winner. Wickliffe will make : his race debut in the Festival Stakes at Addington on I Saturday and a bold run is i likely. Wish Me Luck (Good j Chase—Wishful Hanover) ; paced a useful race for third, clear of Noble Ring [(Noble Lord—Platinum Ring), which was forced wide as he improved on the {home turn. The last 800 m {took Imin 2.65, with the final 400 m in 31.85, and the full 2000 m in 2min 46.35. Jover Light (Wejover-; ’Light Thaw) finished gamely! to shade Bodene Lad (Waitaki Hanover—Sharessa) by { nose in the other heat.; which was run at a slack! pace. The final 400 m took i '31.25. Tropez (Holy HalLopez) was a fair third, { ahead of Wise Hanover { (Brad Hanover—Otherwise), I I which missed the start and; [showed useful speed. I Ostrava put in a fine finishing sprint to win the first {heat for slow-class pacers. !He missed the start and was well back until late. But once into the straight he finished much too well for the I others and won going away by a length and a half from Royal College and the fastfinishing Frosty Lobell. Ostrava, which is in the Three-year-old Stakes on Saturday, paced the 2600 m

. jin 3min 31.75. the last 800 m 1 in a little worse than Imin 1; 2s. Ostrava, runner-up to .{Sovereign in the New Zea- ; { land Derby Stakes at his lat- - {est start, will be a dominatiling favourite for Saturday’s >; race. Royal College, a big disappointment at Orari, went I {much better yesterday and • should make amends at ; Washdyke next Tuesday. Nandina Maestro and Mo--1 rano Del won the other ! heats, with My One, Hilda 1 Lopez, Winning Lass, Real ' Smooth and Crow Bar also ’! shaping pleasingly. Beautiful Bells, Abbey {Chimes, Excalibur and ’Brenda Bell recorded sound runs in the two races for I trotters. Hanover Nelson got up in {the last stride to shade Eastjwood Glenfern in the event {for C2 to C 4 pacers. EastIwood Glenfern, which was, i forced wide early, will be a i chance in the Members’ {Stakes at Addington on Sat-1 iurday in what will be her; first start since April. She| looks to have done plenty of; work. Flaxton, which is engaged at Washdyke on Tuesday, was doing his work well in third place only half a head from Eastwood Glenfern, with a length to Seafield Rose, which came on strongly from the back. Locarno, which could not get through inside the last 100 m, was close by, just ahead of Tri-

bunal, which will probably race next in the Waimate Cup.
