Arapawa goats mustered
The final muster of Old | English goats on Arapawa Island in Pelorus Sound has already produced 60 goats. The muster is organised ( by the director of the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve in
(Christchurch (Mr M. H. Willis) and members of wildlife groups. Fifty men are taking part in the muster, which began on November 19. An estimated 80 goats remain on the island. The Forest Service plans to shoot any goats running loose on the island in December and January, in order to protect
:the island’s vegetation. The goats caught during the muster will be put in an enclosure on the island and looked after by local farmers. A number of them will! ( eventually ' be sent to the I mainland where several ■ musterers and farmers have' expressed an interest in breeding them.
