A French influence
Radio New Zealand (Concert programme, tonight) has produced a dramatised feature programme about the life and ideas of the French writer, poet, lyricist, satirist and film-maker Jacques Prevert. It has been scripted by Christiane Mortelier and was produced by Ross Jolly and David Delany.
Prevert’s anti-war polemics, his attacks on the corruption of money and power and his championing of the underdog considerably affected the social and political mood of France in the 1930 s and 19405. Some of his verse can be seen as the fore-runner of the “protest” poetry of the 19705; and his
films, including “Les Enfants du Paradis,” have become modern classics. Jeremy’ Stevens takes the role of Prevert in this dramatised feature programme. Ray Henwood is the narrator and others taking part include Susan Wilson, Michael Haigh, Jeanette Lewis and Penny Downie.
