Fire at Balmoral
I Sparks from a chainsaw ; are suspected to have caused a fire in Balmoral Forest on j Monday. About half a hectare of I forest was destroyed in the; blaze which took 50 firemen > I from Balmoral and Hanmer i , Springs 90 minutes to bring | under control. The fire was first noticed I by a motorist just before it! was seen by a forest patrol I j which checks the forests! half an hour after workers leave the area, said the fire! control officer (Mr R. A.! Collier). The fire risk in forests; north of Christchurch was i very high at present, said I Mr Collier.
