Hadlee 'dear

The employment of Richard Hadlee by the Canterbury Cricket Association had so far proved to be “a pretty dear exercise,” Mr A. G. Duckmanton said when making a coaching sub-committee report at last evening’s meeting of the C.C.A. Mr Duckmanton said that because cl' Hadlee’s involvement in the World Series Cricket fixtures in the North Island and his participation in an international fast-bowlers competition in Australia, his coaching services had been available on only 15 of a possible 35 week days. Several arrangements for Hadlee to visit primary schools had been cancelled and Mr Duckmanton said that he hoped there would be an improvement during the remainder of the season. A full programme had been drawn up for Hadlee between now and the Gillette Cup final on December 23. In reply, the C.C.A. chairman (Mr L. J. Knowles) said that it was still early in the season and that'Hadlee’s contract was as a coach and a player. The substantial playing commitments ahead would redress the balance.
