Sideshows waiting for Friday
“Sideshow Alley” was still setting up at the show yesterday. More than 5000 school children were there, but they were not allowed to spend any money. Sideshow people leant on their stall boards, smoking and staring into space, wait-| ing for Friday when, as one of them said: “We won’t be able to move.” There will be no new alley events this year, the trabant, and the sizzler — taking those with cast-iron stom-1 achs on scorching lurching; rides through space — have
been regulars now for three or four years. .. Duplication is evident: ;there are at least three 'laughing clown shows, three 11 shooting galleries, several hooplas, and the usual big i wheel, carousel, merry-go-I round, go karts, and ghost (train. The octopus is missing. Adult and children's fees i are the same. If you want a I stint on the sizzler, expect it ' to cost you $1 for three minutes; on the go karts ;i51.50 for five minutes; on I the ghost train, 70c; on the ;;big wheel 80c for five min- ■ utes — $4 in all.
