New small Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi has decided to join the battle for small-car sales in New Zealand, with the announcement this week that the Mitsubishi Mirage, a three-door hatch-back, will be assembled here. Todd Motors, Ltd, will shortly start production of the Mirage at the company’s S2OM assembly plant in Wellington and the car should be available early next year. The most interesting feature of the Mirage is its two-ratio gearbox, which offers one set for round-town zip and a second for highway cruising, and subsequent fuel economv.

The Mirage will prdably have the 72 h.p. 1200 cu cm motor in New Zealand form, driving the front wheels. Its- Renault-sty’e good looks will proably make it a fierce competitor on the lucrative small-car market in New Zealand.
