Injuries to dog

Sir, — I wonder if the person who “attacked” my best friend last Thursday evening is feeling proud. After her eye had been gashed out, she was left bleeding to death in Normans Road. Luckily, through emergency surgery, she lived, although she has lost her eye and has leg injuries. Needless to say' my pocket is $4O poorer. I presume she was “attacked” by a vehicle. If you take on the responsibility to drive, you automatically have a responsibility to life. How is one to accept the degree of selfishness people of today have achieved? Before I adopted my best friend, she had been maltreated physically and mentally. After months of perseverance I managed to get her living again. With two weeks till my bursary exams I am thoroughly upset by the state of my best friend’s face and sight. But she’s only a dog, you may hear them say. — Yours, etc., MARIETTE HOPMAN.
