A link with early days

’ This machine is part of a comprehensive seedcleaning plant being supplied by the old-estab-lished Christchurch firm of Andrews and Beaven Ltd, to a client in the Manawatu., It is of special interest in that the firm is this year celebrating its centenary, and in its earliest

days it made seed-cleaning machinery as well as chaffcutters and threshing mills. One hundred years later it is still active in the seed-cleaning machinery field. The difference today is, of course, that its seedcleaning equipment is much more sophisticated and of much greater capacity.

The part of the plant photographed is known as the 29D Klipper. It is a riddle and aspiration machine, li has four fairly large riddles, also fans that blow away dust and other impurities, and is a complete seed-cleaning machine in itself. The comprehensive plant, of which the Clipper is a part and which is being supplied by .the

Christchurch firm, costs about $45,000. And there is an interesting point about the firm’s customer in this case. His grandfather bought a threshing mill from Andrews and Beaven Ltd, in 19J1. Standing on the machine is Mr lari McDonald, of Andrews and Heaven’s process machinery division.
